Vehicle Registration

The Town of Frenchville participates in the online Rapid Renewal Program. To re-register your vehicle or trailer, Click Here
Please be aware this service will charge you 2.5% of your total for processing. 

What to bring to the Town Office to register your vehicle/trailer


For a re-registration:
  • Your old registration.
  • Your current insurance card, showing it is insured as of the day you are coming to register it.
  • The exact mileage, no rounding or guessing. 


For a new registration:

Both parties on the registration must be present to register for the first time! 
         
        Dealer Sale: 
  • Bill of sale showing sales tax paid
  • Blue title application
  • Window Sticker (If brand new vehicle)
  • Current insurance card.
  • Exact mileage
  • If you are transferring your plates from the old vehicle to the new vehicle, you will need the old registration and you must no longer own this vehicle in order to receive an excise tax credit. 

        Private Sale: 
  • Bill of sale stating, make, model, year, vin number, mileage, sold from/to and price paid. 
  • Original Title with the back completed by both parties (Vehicles 1995 and newer) 
  • Current insurance card
  • Exact mileage
  • If you are transferring your plates from the old vehicle to the new vehicle, you will need the old registration and you must no longer own this vehicle in order to receive an excise tax credit.

Trailers: Please note for Trailers 3000 lbs. or more MUST have a title. You will need to know the weight, tires and axles as well. The State of Maine participates and a long-term trailer registration program. This is through the state and cannot be done at the town office. Once registered you can put it in the long-term program for 5-12 years, registrations are transferable. Click HERE for more information. 

Campers:  You will need to know the length of the camper, make, model, vin, how many slides if any and possibly other information. 


Out of State Vehicles:  When you come to register your vehicle for the first time you must have your prior vehicle registration, Title, if it still has a lien holder and you don't have the title, we will need the name and address of the lien holder. We will also need a current valid insurance card and the exact mileage. 



Canadian
Vehicles:  If you have purchased your vehicle in Canada, you will need the following forms: 
  • The original MCO (Manufactures Certificate of Origin) if the vehicle is new or the previous registration if the vehicle is used.
  • DOT HS-7 Declaration Form
  • Customs Entry Summary (Form 7501 or CF-3299 or CF-368
  • Completed MVT-10 (Vin Inspection Form)
  • Trailers and Special Equipment do not require an HS-7 or Customs Entry Summary, but Campers DO require an MVT-10 (Vin Inspection)
