Parks & Recreation
The Town of Frenchville offers a state of the art boat launch facility open to the public for access to the beautiful St. John River. The town boasts great recreational opportunities for ATV and snowmobile enthusiasts.
The St. John Valley is gateway to the 80-mile Fish River chain of rivers and lakes, which is nationally recognized for its amazing salmon and trout fishing. The nearby Allagash Wilderness Waterway is a splendid 92-mile stretch of lakes, ponds, rivers and streams where visitors can embark on an exciting canoe trip (call the Bureau of Parks and Lands at (207) 287-4984 for planning details).
Historical Information
The Valley is distinctly French-influenced and visitors are likely to hear French spoken here as well as English. This is due to the area’s Acadian heritage, which dates back to the 1700s. Don’t miss Frenchville’s Historical Society, a detailed living history site, complete with artifacts. Books, antiques, and other Frenchville memorabilia have been added for visitors to view. For more information visit the Historical Society page.
